The cornerstone of the golden days of the Nishitetsu Lions, a Japanese professional baseball team, during the 1950’s, Yasumitsu Toyoda earned the nickname "Samurai" for his uncanny ability to come through in the clutch with hits and catches. Winner of the Rookie of the Year and Japan Series MVP award among other honors during his illustrious career, Mr. Toyoda was recently inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame of Japan.
Mr. Toyoda is now a renowned baseball commentator, major newspaper and magazine columnist and author. He will be discussing the societal role of baseball in Japan and the United States as well as what sets professionals and amateurs apart. Mr. Toyoda, with a translator, will also touch on how he has seen U.S. - Japan relations change throughout his lifetime and his own role as a "Baseball Ambassador."
