Music, a Street Fair, and Food
Date: 2008-08-05
Description:
On Tuesday, August 5th, The LAPD hosts National Night Out: America's Night Out Against Crime between 7pm and 10pm in Little Tokyo. Setup will begin as early as 12 noon.
In 1984, the National Association of Town Watch introduced the idea of National Night Out to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie.
Traditionally, "lights on" and front porch vigils have been ways to participate in the annual event, however, activities have expanded to include block parties, cookouts, parades, police station open houses, festivals, neighborhood walks, safety fairs, contests, rallies and meetings.
The street closures are as follows:
From 12 noon until 10pm:
1st street will be closed from Alameda to Central Ave. (only emergency vehicles allowed to get through). If LAPD believes there will be a big draw, they may extend the closure to San Pedro
Expected are a stage for musicians, a street fair, food, drink. Admission will be free.
