The Discover Nikkei website connects communities worldwide in the discovery and preservation of and access to Nikkei resources located in disparate cultural communities and educational institutions that preserve and collect important collections.

East West Players
Founded in 1965, East West Players has been called "the nation's pre-eminent Asian American theatre" by the New York Times. Every year we produce a mix of traditional classics, Broadway productions, and plays specific to the Asian American experience. Educational programs include Theatre for Youth, Actors Conservatory, the D Henry Hwang Writers Institute and A.C.T.S. (professional development).

Go for Broke
The Go For Broke Monument, located just north of the Japanese American National Museum, is the first of its kind on the mainland USA commemorating the 15,987 Japanese American veterans of World War II who served our country while their families were incarcerated in the internment camps during the war.


 

Japanese American Cultural and Community Center
The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC) presents Japanese and Japanese American cultural programs in its multiple facilities including the 880-seat Japan America Theater, the Doizaki Gallery and the award-winning Irvine Japanese Garden housed in the Center's building. Before stepping inside, enjoy the plaza created by world famous artist Isamu Noguchi. The sculpture on the plaza, designed by Noguchi, is entitled "To the Issei" who were the immigrant founders of the Japanese American community.  

Japanese American National MuseumJapanese American National Museum
The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is the only museum in the country dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history and heritage of Americans of Japanese ancestry. The museum is housed in a new 85,000 square-foot Pavilion designed by Gyo Obata of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum, who also designed the Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. On display: an original barrack from the Heart Mountain relocation camp that housed Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II.  

LA Artcore
LA Artcore, a non-profit public benefit corporation established to encourage interaction between professional artists and the public through art educational workshops, community outreach programs and monthly exhibitions.

National Center for the Preservation of Democracy
The National Center for the Preservation of Democracy is a non-profit, non-partisan educational institution that provides tools for living democratically in a diverse American society. Partnering with educators and community-based mentors, the National Center works to inspire youth to become active, informed participants in shaping democracy in America.

Visual Communications
The mission of Visual Communications is to promote intercultural understanding through the creation, presentation, preservation and support of media works by and about Asian Pacific Americans. Visual Communications was created with the understanding that media and the arts are important vehicles to organize and empower communities, build connections between generations, challenge perspectives, and create an environment for critical thinking, necessary to build a more just and humane society.
